Landscape Irrigation Auditor

Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor Program

Landscape irrigation auditing is the skill of managing and scheduling irrigation water wisely and efficiently. CLIA Certification requires the completion of The Irrigation Association's (U.S) Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor program. For more information on the IA's CLIA Certification check the IA's website at: www.irrigation.org

A certified auditor must demonstrate that he/she can audit an irrigation system by determining plant water needs, soil types, and local weather data in order to develop accurate watering schedules. Skills such as these will be increasingly in demand for parks, school grounds maintenance workers and golf course keepers in the future.

The IIABC periodically sponsors the Irrigation Association's (IA's) Landscape Irrigation Auditor Course & CLIA EXAM in BC. The course is co-sponsored in B.C. on an as need basis, generally every two years. Names are taken on a waiting list and a course is organized when the minimum interest level is obtained. Individuals may also take the course in the U.S. through the Irrigation Association (IA) or in Alberta through the Alberta Chapter of the IA (ACIA). Upon completion, an IIABC member must send in proof of pass to the IIABC office to receive the accreditation from the IIABC.

NOTE: IA Changes CLIA Certification Program as of April 2007.

The IA has recently changed its CLIA Certification Programming. The course is no longer required before a person may challenge the CLIA EXAM. However, a minimum one year irrigation related experience is required prior to applying to write the exam. After passing the CLIA Exam a Certified Irrigation Audit must be completed and signed off by a Certified Irrigation Auditor. For more information and costs/fees for course & exam check the IA's website: www.irrigation.org or phone the IA at: (703) 536-7080.
